Alonso: Hard to beat

Marcos Alonso insists the Blues will be tough to defeat if we show the same work ethic and passion as we did in the win over Everton.

In a match between fourth and sixth in the Premier League, the difference between the sides was five goals for Chelsea, condemning the Tofffees to their biggest top-flight defeat in seven years.

Alonso opened his account for his new club, netting our second with a precise finish from inside the box, and it was an evening full of positives as far as the Spaniard was concerned.

'Very happy,' was his verdict on the mood in the camp and his own feelings after scoring. 'I hope more of that will be coming in the next few matches.

'We are playing great games – not just scoring goals, but also not conceding. This is the way we have to continue.

'It's important to start games well and then we could keep control of the game.

'Overall we have to keep working as we are doing now because the team is playing very well and this is the way we have to follow.

'We have settled well in this system. We are all defending well, all the players are running and helping each other and I think that is the main thing.

'Even if we play four at the back, three at the back, if we all run like this and we all put this passion into the game, I think it's going to be tough to beat.'

The victory took the Blues to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday evening ahead of the matches to conclude the weekend, but Alonso knows there is still plenty of football to be played.

'It's good to be at the top but the important thing is to be there at the end of the season so now we will have to fight to stay up there,' he concluded.
